Hermés and Comme Des Garçons announce designer collaboration Comme des Carrés
26 November 2012
You would be hard pressed to find a more interesting design collaboration than Rei Kawakubo of the avant garde Commes des Garçons and the infamous French fashion house, Hermés. The result of which are two distinct collections of Hermés silk scarves or ‘carrés’ for release next spring.
“I have always had an immense respect for Hermès’ tradition and artisanal know-how,” Kawakubo told WWD . “During this joint project, rather than being guided by the idea of the scarf as it is worn, I became interested instead in the beautiful ‘artworks’ that the designs on Hermès carrés represent, and I sought to change them by adding elements. By combining them with abstract images, we have transformed the carré and created a unique object”.
Aptly named ‘Comme des Carrés’, the first collection Noir et Blanc will include a selection of five monochrome designs and they will be sold exclusively at Comme des Garçons stores in Tokyo, New York and Paris. The second collection Coleur will be colourful and available at Dover Street Market in London and Tokyo. The collaboration will “rewrite the narrative of the carré” said Hermés.
So get in line early if you want to purchase this timeless accessory, these definitely wont flutter in the windows long. In stores February 2013.
